NAC stands for Nucleation Assisted Crystallization. Rather than softening water by removing minerals, it conditions it — turning dissolved calcium into harmless aragonite microcrystals that flow through pipes, elements and glassware without bonding. The minerals stay in your water; only their ability to form scale is reduced. No salt, no wastewater, no electricity.
If you want that soft-water feel on skin and hair, traditional resin softening still does that — NAC deliberately leaves the minerals in. If your goal is protecting pipes, hot water systems and appliances with minimal upkeep and a long media life, NAC is the better long-term choice.
There's a second difference that matters in hard water: resin is consumed by the softening it does. Its capacity is strongest in the early weeks of a fresh refill and tapers as it's used up — which is why the soft-water feel fades before the refill is due. NAC isn't consumed by the crystallisation it drives, so it works the same in month twenty as it does on day one.

The NAC media we supply is certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 by the Water Quality Association (WQA) and IAPMO for use in potable water systems. These are material-safety certifications — they confirm the media is safe in contact with drinking water. They are not a performance certification, and we make no certified performance claim.
