Stage 1 · Sediment · yearly PP sediment filter PW-F-1545C-PP5

Sealed polypropylene cartridge, 5 micron. Catches sand, rust and dirt before they reach the later stages. Replaced yearly.

Stage 2 · Carbon · yearly Activated carbon block PW-F-1545C-CTOC5

Sealed cartridge, 5 micron. Reduces chlorine, taste and odour, and, running ahead of the NAC, keeps chlorine off the media so nothing disrupts the crystal formation it relies on. Replaced yearly. Made for water supplies disinfected with chlorine, as Perth's and most of WA's are. Supplies disinfected with chloramine (some east-coast utilities) need a different carbon: text us before ordering.

Stage 3 · NAC · every 2 years NAC scale-prevention media PW-M-NAC-875

Salt-free media, supplied loose in a bag to charge the cartridge your resin sits in now, which then runs last, at the point the water heads off into your home. Conditions dissolved calcium into microcrystals that are far less able to form scale. Runs approximately two years.

Two sealed cartridges drop straight into their housings; the NAC media is a pour. The cartridges change yearly and the NAC media every two years, so in the year between, you only need the two cartridges: message us and we'll send just those. In the same honest spirit: we only list certifications we can document, the NAC media carries the material-safety certifications above; the sediment and carbon cartridges are quality-checked but don't carry independent certifications.

What's in the box: the two sealed cartridges, the NAC media bag, the refill instruction card and a sachet of food-grade silicone grease for the O-rings.

How often do I replace each stage?

The sediment and carbon cartridges are replaced yearly. The NAC media runs approximately two years, depending on your water hardness. In the year between, you only need the two cartridges, message us and we'll send just those.

Which housing does the NAC media go in?

Last. The carbon block moves to the middle position and the NAC cartridge runs last: the carbon takes the chlorine out first, protecting the media so nothing disrupts the crystal formation it relies on.

Does NAC soften the water?

No. NAC is scale prevention, not softening, it conditions dissolved calcium into microcrystals that are far less able to form scale, and leaves the minerals in the water. If you want the soft-water feel on skin and hair, the resin set does that instead.

Is this carbon block right for my water supply?

Made for water supplies disinfected with chlorine, as Perth's and most of WA's are. Supplies disinfected with chloramine (some east-coast utilities) need a different carbon: text us before ordering.

Will using non-genuine filters void my CHF warranty?

No. Under Australian Consumer Law a supplier can't void your warranty simply because you used a compatible third-party consumable, that's a well-established consumer right. Keep your receipts, and if a warranty claim is ever refused on filter brand alone, the ACCC and your state consumer body are the people to talk to.

How long does it take, and do I need a plumber?

About twenty minutes with the housing wrench, and no plumber, the two sealed cartridges drop in and the NAC media is a pour into the cartridge your resin used to sit in, which then moves to the last position. Instructions are in the box and on the site, or we'll do it for you for $100 anywhere in Perth metro.

How NAC works

NAC stands for Nucleation Assisted Crystallization. Rather than softening water by removing minerals, it conditions it, turning dissolved calcium into harmless aragonite microcrystals that flow through pipes, elements and glassware without bonding. The minerals stay in your water; only their ability to form scale is reduced. No salt, no wastewater, no electricity.

The honest trade-off

If you want that soft-water feel on skin and hair, traditional resin softening still does that, NAC deliberately leaves the minerals in. If your goal is protecting pipes, hot water systems and appliances with minimal upkeep and a long media life, NAC is the better long-term choice.

There's a second difference that matters in hard water: resin is consumed by the softening it does. Its capacity is strongest in the early weeks of a fresh refill and tapers as it's used up, which is why the soft-water feel fades before the refill is due. NAC isn't consumed by the crystallisation it drives, so it works the same in month twenty as it does on day one.

The NAC media we supply is certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 by the Water Quality Association (WQA) and IAPMO for use in potable water systems. These are material-safety certifications, they confirm the media is safe in contact with drinking water. They are not a performance certification, and we make no certified performance claim.
